Your Xbox One is probably unnecessarily costing you money if you live in North America and haven’t changed your power settings. The console is consuming $250 million annually combined in America during sleep mode, according to a report by the nonprofit Natural Resources Defense Council. Luckily, there is a fix.
If you want to save some power, all you have to do is activate the energy saving mode – go to the home screen, press the menu button on the controller, select settings, then go to power and start up, and then select the energy-saving power mode. This will increase start up time however, and you will lose the ability to power on the device using voice control.
The fact that the initial set up does not give you the option to set your power mode is somewhat disappointing – users in Europe do have that option and it’s difficult to see why American users do not.
What do you think, would you be willing to increase start up time and give up the ability to power on using voice control to save some power? Leave a comment below, and share this article with any Xbox One owners you know.
