World’s First Bamboo Smartphone Revealed At Droidcon

Adzero Bamboo SmartphoneAdzero revealed their prototype of a bamboo smartphone at Droidcon last week.

According to the company, it’s the first of its kind in the world. This product goes beyond the eco-friendly phone case, with a smartphone in which the entire body is made from a sustainable resource.

According to Treehugger, the first production model is set to feature a 4.5 inch display, 1 GB of RAM with 16GB of storage and will be powered by a 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos 4 quad-core processor. It will use one of two versions of Android OS, either Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or AD Android Operating System (ADAOS).

The Adzero bamboo smartphone will come with two cameras; one a rear-facing 8MP f/2.0 back illuminated sensor with RingFlash plus a 0.3MP front-facing camera. Planned battery capacity is set for a nominal 2050mAh. The smartphone is designed to run on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; UMTS/HSPA+ 1900/2100 MHz networks and features 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.

Innovation does not come cheap. The reported price for the Adzero bamboo smartphone is expected to be in the $700 range. According to Gizmag, Adzero plans on using Kickstarter to fund the initial start-up, offering investors the opportunity to receive an early-bird discount of $200. The time frame for the project is still to be determined.
