World Maker Faire 2011: About, Hours, Schedule, Ticket Info & More

The 2nd annual World Maker Faire takes place this weekend in New York.

The World Maker Faire is the world’s largest DIY festival that is expected to draw over 25,000 visitors, which is more than last year’s! The two days that the event is held on will feature a ton of technology, engineering, art and do-it-yourself projects. Over 500 inventors, scientists, crafters, educators, entrepreneurs, students, authors, and creators, will join forces to show the world their talents and ask the same.

This year’s Maker Faire features a craft pavilion, workshops galore, project that emphasize innovations in health care, exhibits, science demonstrations, art-technology displays, and even a 3D printing village.

“World Maker Faire shows us just how fun and exciting science and technology learning can be,” said NYSCI President and CEO Margaret Honey. “The creativity and ingenuity on display is exactly the type of hands-on, experiential learning that we need to inspire young people to want to learn more about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). These four areas of learning are critical to American competitiveness but they are on the decline in the United States. Maker Faire is one piece of our efforts to revitalize young people’s interest in STEM learning.”
