Day 7 of Wimbledon is here and one thing is for certain: anything can happen.
With big names like Serena Williams and Li Na having been eliminated, it is obvious no one is a sure thing at Wimbledon this year.
Today’s matches feature an elite group of both veteran and up and coming players and a jam-packed schedule due to 2 of Saturday’s games being postponed until today.
For the men, all eyes will be on an injured, but still formidable, Novak Djokovic, as he takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Djokovic fell hard during his 3rd round match with Gilles Simon, but went on to finish the match and win.
He said afterward he felt fine, but the fall occurred towards the end of match play, so it is hard to know if that’s true.
Tsonga started off rocky in his opening 2 rounds, but cruised through his 3rd round match and is playing extremely well.
These 2 have played each other 12 times, with Djokovic holding a 12-5 advantage. Barring a substantial injury to his shoulder, expect Djokovic to win.
The women’s side has Maria Sharapova battling Angelique Kerber in the must-see match of the day.
Sharapova has not won at Wimbledon in over a decade and suffered a 2nd round defeat last year here in London, so she is looking to change all that.
The departures of Williams and Na have made her road a little easier, but she still has some work to do.
She is an exceptionally strong player and has looked almost perfect here, winning 11 games in row.
Kerber is not to be counted out: she is the 9th seed and has looked confident over the 1st 3 rounds.
They have met 5 times, with Sharapova leading those contests 4-1.
Sharapova looks to dominant for Kerber and should win this match.
