Here are the key matches to watch for:
Maria Sharapova-vs-Sabine Lisicki: match play immediately follows the men, which should be around 9 P.M. (EST), Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Sharapova is the clear favorite, although her style of play have some questioning whether she can last until the end.
She has been playing from behind a majority of the time ans even though she is one of the best at staging a comeback these elongated matches could cause her to falter from exhaustion.
Lisicki, who has not had any luck at the Open and recovering from injures most of the season, is the perfect opponent for Sharapova to have a quick, easy win.
Sharapova in straight sets: 6-2, 6-2.
The other women’s match to watch in the women’s group are Sara Erani-vs-Venus Williams (match begins after 1 P.M. (EST). Williams and Erani have met 3 times before, with Venus winning all 3 matches.
Sam Groth-vs-Rodger Federer: 7 P.M. (EST), Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Federer is viewed by many as the man to beat in this tournament and with good reason: Federer is one of the best in the game ’til this day and has played brilliantly thus far.
Groth, who continues to get better and better, seems to realize he may be fighting a losing battle, referring to Federer as : “…the greatest player that ever lived.”
Federer in straight sets : 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.
The winners from day 4 are as follows:
For the women Serena Williams defeated Vania King easily, 6-1, 6-0, Eugenie Bouchard defeated Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4 and Karolina Pliskova beat Ana Ivanovic, 7-5, 6-4.
For the men Novak Djokovic soundly beat Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 and Andy Murray beat Matthias Bachinger, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4
