Toyota Issues Another Massive Recall

Toyota has issued a massive recall of 2.2 million vehicles from its Toyota and Lexus brand due to gas pedal entrapment issues.

The gas pedals are becoming stuck in floormats on many vehicles which causes safety issues. The recall is divided up into several parts for various different gas pedal related issues.

20,000 vehicles from the 2006 and 2007 Lexus GS300 and GS350 lines are being recalled because the gas pedal is becoming stuck in the plastic pad of the floormat causing a danger to the driver.

372,000 vehicles from the 2004 through the 2007 Lexus RX330, RX350 and RX400h SUVs along with 397,000 vehicles from the 2004 through the 2006 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs are all being recalled because a retention clip on the center console can come loose and interfere with the gas pedal.

The company is also expanding a 2009 recall that was issued when the gas pedal of many cars became stuck on extra thick floormats that did not come standard with the car. In this recall they will reshape the pedal and the floorboard to allow the use of all weather floormats. This recall affects 603,000 vehicles from the 2003 to 2009 Toyota 4Runner SUVs, 17,000 vehicles from the 2008 through 2011 Lexus LX570 SUVs and 761,000 vehicles from the 2006 to 2010 RAV4s.

The recall happened when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigated the earlier recall for pedal entrapment. After reviewing everything they requested Toyota make the additional recalls. The investigation has now been closed.
