A cheap iPhone?
News of the expected new iPhone 5C is running wild on the internet.
Word is the ‘C” stands for “colorful.” The iPhone 5C is rumored to come in five colors. Blue, red, green, yellow and white.
The ‘colorful’ part was pretty much confirmed yesterday when Apple sent out an invite for select media to attend the reveal event (see image).
But it’s said that the iPhone 5C will be cheap as well. Rumors suggest a price of between $400 to $500 off contract.
That will likely mean a price of $99 on contract.
Is $400 to $500 cheap? I’ll let you be the judge of that one…. but it is cheaper than the $650 to $850 a current iPhone 5 costs.
There may be a second iPhone revealed as well, the iPhone 5S – an upgrade to the current iPhone 5.
– IF – Apple holds to their past history, the phone or phones will be made available for pre-ordering on the second Friday after the reveal. That would be September 20th.
And there’s a good chance pre-ordering will begin very early in the morning. iPhone 5 pre-orders opened on Apple’s, AT&T’s, Verizon’s and Sprint’s websites simultaneously at 3am (Eastern Time). Many of us may be a bit bleary eyed at work the morning of the 20th.
When the iPhone 5 came out, the phones were delivered a week after pre-ordering began (the following Friday) to those who got their pre-orders in before the first batch sold out.
If that same schedule holds true, the iPhone 5C will be officially launched in stores and delivered to early shoppers September 27th.
Other than a colorful and cheap(er) iPhone, what can we expect from an iPhone 5C?
Most analysts are basically expecting the iPhone 5C to an iPhone 5 in a hard, colorful, plastic shell. It’s been suggested that it may take on some body modifications that will liken it to an iPod.
Like the iPhone 5, it’s said to have a 4-inch Retina display, 8mp rear camera, and run on iOS 7. Some have suggested that some software features might be pulled to differentiate this model from the higher end models.
Ok, there’s my take on how this will all shake out.
