The Avengers On DVD: Big Movie… Small Screen… Still Great!

The Avengers have made their way to the Blu-ray/DVD front.

So does this big movie hold its own on the small screen?

After seeing the film two times in theaters, I can safely say that the third viewing on a much smaller screen still had me loving the film. It still feels like a movie bigger than life, and it is just as exciting to watch as it was on the big screen.

On Blu-Ray/DVD, as soon as the previews and advertisements are finished, the movie jumps to its menu. I have to say this one of the best menus I have seen in quite some time.

As expected, the menu goes through each character, but it transitions in such as unique way that it is able to capture every individual, as well as capture the overall scale, of the movie. The general design behind the menu was just icing on the cake, as it fits right in with the movie.

Being such a major release, some may expect “The Avengers” to have a lot of extras in its bonus features. In that regard, it’s somewhat disappointing. The featurettes could have had a lot more meat on their bones. There were many details to the movie, and its making, left unexplored.

However, the gag reel is hilarious, and the deleted scenes give a different perspective to the film. Not to mention the interactive commentary and the short “Item 47,” which establishes a more in-depth look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

My guess is that there will be more content to come in future releases. But for what is included with this combo pack, the features are still worth a watch.

While the special features are hit and miss, everything else matches up with the massive scale of this movie. “The Avengers” will fit right into anyone’s collection, both comic book and movie fans alike.
