Steve Jobs Escapes Carbonite iPhone Cases

Skins for iPads, iPhones, and laptops are nothing new, and many people enjoy customizing and personalizing their devices with these cool additions. One particular skin, though, won’t be found on the market anymore, thanks to legal action by Apple’s legal team.

Society6 is an artwork printing company that posted an iPhone skin and case featuring Steve Jobs depicted in a Han-Solo-in-carbonite pose. The iPhone case has the appearance of carbonite and a 3D look to it. The product drew some immediate attention, including that of Apple, Inc.

It took the lawyers at Apple a few moments to serve Society6 with a cease and desist request, requiring the company to immediately remove the iPhone cases and skins. Society6 complied and removed the iPhone cases and skins from its product line.

As it turns out, these iPhone cases aren’t the only Steve Jobs paraphernalia Apple’s lawyers have forbidden. In 2010 they sent a notice to M.I.C. Gadget for producing a Steve Jobs action figure. At that time, M.I.C. Gadget has already sold 300 of the action figures and were required to cease and desist further sales because of a violation against a California code hat states that no one may make “use of any person’s name, photograph, or likeness in a product without that person’s prior consent.”
