Sony Ericsson Unveils Two New Gingerbread Phones

Sony Ericsson has announced two new smartphones showing their attempt to recapture the Android phone market share.  The phones are Xperia Ray and Xperia Active which are scheduled to hit the market on the third quarter.

Right now Sony Ericsson is facing a sales drop of 23% in this quarter and they are trying to turn it around. According to the SE spokesperson, the prices of these phones will be lower than the latest high profile Xperia Arc. Both the phones will feature the latest version of Android for phones which is Gingerbread.

Xperia Active is designed for survival. It is scratch proof and water resistant. It can be kept up to 30 seconds under three feet of water. The touchscreen will also work with wet or sweaty hands. To justify the name this phone also features on screen heart monitoring and some other interesting features.

The other phone, the Xperia Ray, has a stylish look. It’s 9.4 millimeters thick, and will run with a 1GHz processor and feature Sony’s Reality Display with the Mobile BRAVIA engine. This phone has a 8.1 megapixel camera.

The internal specifications are similar in these two phones though externally they look completely different. These phones are expected to be available this summer.
