Sonos PLAY 3: A Cheaper, WiFi, Wireless Speaker System – Launched

Today Sonos revealed the Sonos PLAY:3, a wireless speaker that replaces the pricier zone system Sonos utilized previously. Users that acquire the PLAY:3 system will still require the basic Sonos Bridge device, which connects to the Internet to access steaming music services such as MOG, Rhapsody, Spotify, Pandora, etc.. Users will then be able to stream that music from the Sonos Bridge to any room with the PLAY:3 speaker.

This is a much cheaper option than Sonos’ past offers. The PLAY:3 costs $299 and the Sonos Bridge now only costs $50 instead of its previous price of just under $100. Sonos also has free applications for iPhone, iPad, and Android, which allows these devices to act as controllers for the PLAY:3 speaker system.

According to PCMag, the PLAY:3, which measures 5.2 by 10.5 by 6.3 inches, has one tweeter, two 3-inch midrange drivers, and a “rear-firing bass radiator,” which is not a subwoofer, but can reproduce respectable low-end.

The Sonos PLAY:3, which is currently available in black and white, can be purchased on the Sonos website.
