Fans of ‘The Walking Dead’ have reason to celebrate: the much talked about spin-off series has been officially picked up for 2 seasons by AMC , with season 1 premiering this summer.
Although it’s being referred to as a spin-off technically it’s a companion series since it will have a whole new cast and not be directly related to the current series story-lines (except for the zombie factor).
Ever since ‘The Walking Dead’ rose to popularity (like zombies rising from the dead, lol) fans have been asking to see what the rest of the world looks like in this apocalyptic state and they’re finally going to find out.
The companion series will take place in Los Angeles, California and have a completely new cast. Cats members include: Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, Sons of Anarchy), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and The Half-blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into The storm).
Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Herd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert, who serve as executive producers of the current “Walking Dead’ series will executive produce the new series as well.
David Erickson (Marco Polo, Sons of Anarchy), c0-created the show and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman and will be serving as Showrunner and executive producer as well.
A title for the show has not been revealed yet, nor an exact air date, except to say it will be some time this summer and season 2 will be in 2016.
Kirkman and his staff told reporters they are overjoyed by this announcement, as it’s: “a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC”.
‘The Walking Dead’ is currently in its fifth season and is as popular as ever so it will be interesting to see how well their companion series does.
If it does well that means ‘Walking Dead’ fans have years and years of storyline to enjoy.
