On Monday night the San Francisco Giants won their first World Series championship since the team moved west to California in 1958. The team has five previous World Series titles to their name from their days in New York, with the last one being in 1954.
This is their fourth appearance in the World Series since the move to California but each time they ended up losing. The Giants won the series in game five with a four games to one victory on Monday. The score of the winning game was 3 to 1.
It was a nail-biting game for fans of the Giants as well as the Texas Rangers when the score remained dead at 0-0 in the sixth inning. However things changed in the seventh when shortstop Edgar Renteria managed to land a 3 run homer that put the Giants up 3 to 0.
The Rangers answered with a homer of their own and brought the lead to only two with a score of 3 to 1. This was as close as they would get for the night. The game ended with the 3 to 1 score and the Giants brought home a World Series championship that was long overdue.
