Samsung’s MP3 Player Gets A New Name, May Ship Soon

Samsung’s Galaxy S3 companion gets a name change and appears to be gearing up for a US release.

The S-Pebble was announced seven months ago as an MP3 player addition to the new Samsung S3 smartphone.

But for unknown reasons, it’s release in both North America, and other parts of the world was delayed. The player was released in South Korea in October.

For its release in the US, Samsung has re-branded the tiny music player the “Muse.” Given how tiny it is, pebble was probably a more accurate name.

The Muse will connect to your S3 (or S2, Note, or Note 2), via a micro-USB cable to charge and import music. It does not need to be connected to a computer.

The Muse has 4 Gig of space for music. According to Samsung, it has a 17 hour battery life.

The MP3 player will support the usual music formats MP3, WMA, OGG and FLAC. The downside is the lack of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth compatibility. It’s unusual for any device to lack those two very important specs any more.

The point of this music player is to allow people the chance to listen to music while they work out, without having to carry around their smartphone. Does anyone actually leave their smartphone behind anymore? Samsung seems to think so.

The upside for those people that decide to go this way? The Muse is relatively cheap, running at only $49.99 for the marble white, and $59.99 for the pebble blue.

There is still no ETA on when it will be  released though. Amazon.com has it listed, so hopefully soon.
