Priceless iPhone 5 Prototype Lost In SF – Sold On Craigslist For $200?

According to a report posted by CNET, Apple apparently lost an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4GS prototype in San Francisco in late July. This isn’t the first time Apple has supposedly lost a priceless prototype!

Last year, an iPhone 4 prototype was purchased by a gadget blog that paid $5,000 in cash. The phone went missing when Robert Gray Powell, an Apple computer engineer who was 28-years-old at the time, left it in a German beer garden in Redwood City, California. Powell lost his job as a result.

This year’s lost iPhone was taken from a Mexican restaurant and bar, and may have been sold on Craigslist for $200.

According to a source, a day or two after the phone was lost at the “tequila lounge” named Cava 22, Apple reportedly contacted San Francisco police, saying that the device was priceless and that he company was desperate to get it back.

Apple electronically traced the lost iPhone 5 to a home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights. When the police and Apple’s investigators visited the residence, they spoke with a man in his twenties who admitted to being at Cava 22 the night the prototype went missing. The man denied knowing anything about the iPhone, and allowed police to search the house. Nothing was found. Apple even offered the man money for the phone, but the man continued to deny that he had any knowledge of it.

This rumor is currently unconfirmed by Apple.

According to other rumors, the iPhone 5 is supposedly going to be released in October. There are currently no details in regard to what kind of phone the iPhone 5 will be. Will it be an iPhone 5, or an iPhone 4GS? Only time will tell!
