Pete Postlethwaite Dies After Long Battle With Cancer [Video]

A private family man and Oscar nominee, Pete Postlethwaite, lost his lengthy battle with cancer on Sunday at the  age of 64. He peacefully passed away at the Royal Schrewbury Hospital, near his rural property in Shropshire.

Postlethwaite’s fight with cancer has been a long one. He was first diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1990 and more recently he was re-diagnosed with testicular cancer.

He has had a highly decorated career, starting from wanting to be a priest before becoming a PE teacher. Postlethwaite then turned his hand to acting where his acting career started in Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre in the 1970s.

More recently, he has finished filming in what will be his last film, Killing Bono which is scheduled for release in April. Director and old friend, Nick Hamm, reported Postlethwaite struggled with chemotherapy while the filming was being made but he was determined to fight the disease.

In 1994 he was an Oscar nominee for his role of Guiseppe Conlon in the movie “In the Name of the Father” and in 2004 he received an OBM for his services to drama.

Postlethwaite is survived by his partner of 20 years, Jacqui, whom he married in 2003, and his two children – William 21, a drama student, and daughter Lily 14.
