Olympic Preview: The Top 4 Must See Events!

Michael Phelps

There was Queen and ‘The Queen” along with Daniel Craig/James Bond and Mr. Bean.

It’s hard to imagine Great Britain could have packed more into Friday night’s Opening Ceremony, even paying homage to its health care system and history of excellence in children’s literature.

It may have been all over the place, but so are the Olympics for all its majesty as a hodge-podge of events, including bike racing, boxing, table tennis, equestrian and swimming, air Saturday morning on  NBC.

Olympics coverage will be on several channels owned/operated by NBC, including CNBC, MSNBC and the NBC Sports Network through the conclusion of the Britain Games, set to run through August 12.

Along with swimming’s tasty showdowns in the 200 and 400 individual medleys between Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin is another top American athlete to watch in the pool.

Other must-see events include a “blink and you’ll miss it” track showdown in the 100 between Usain Bolt and fellow Jamaicans Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell along with Americans Tyson Gay and Walter Dix.

Gymnastics is always remarkable to watch, and this Olympics will be no different with American Jordyn Wieber, the reigning world champion, trying to hold off teammate Gabby Douglas for the individual all-around crown.

In beach volleyball, Brazil, China and their fellow American tandem of Jen Kessy and April Ross stand in the way of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings’ bid for a third-straight gold medal.
