Officer Charged In Shooting Spree Is Innocent

The charges that were filed Friday against a police officer in the shooting spree that went into two states will be dropped, according to authorities. Brian Dorian was released from jail Tuesday evening on his own recognizance while awaiting the dismissal.

After spending time in jail on a $2.5 million bail, forensic analysis of Dorian’s home and computer activity has confirmed the alibi that he gave to police. He had told authorities that he was at home watching sports and using e-mail at the times of the shootings. He has been on medical leave for a year.

Dorian’s father has said that he is relieved, but never doubted his son’s innocence.  His attorney spoke briefly about the relief that his client felt, but said he is still concerned that the actual shooter is still at large.

Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow expressed his remorse over the situation. He said that evidence and identifications had led to the arrest, and he felt horrible about the fact that the arrest was made in error.

According to Chief Russell L. Pearson, Glasgow owes the victims, their families, and Dorian an apology for rushing to judgment and making an arrest too hastily.

The arrest stemmed from an October 5th shooting spree that began at a construction site where one man was killed and two others wounded when a gunman opened fire. An hour later and 10 miles away, the same gunman opened fire on a farmer.
