Nissan Recall – What & Why Older SUV’s Are Being Recalled

Nissan Motor Co. has issued a recall of 196,000 older cars due to the potential for steering loss.

According to U.S. Safety Regulators, there is the potential for road salt and water to lead to a loss of steering in many old Nissan Pathfinders and Infiniti QX4 SUVs. The problem has led to the massive recall of nearly 196,000 vehicles by Nissan Motor Co.

The vehicles being recalled include 162,658 1996-2004 Nissan Pathfinders and 33,333 1997-2003 Infiniti QX4 SUVs.

Regulators said the problem occurs when salt and melting snow become trapped in the strut housing and lead to corrosion. This corrosion then makes steering difficult to impossible. Because of this, the recall is focused on areas where salt is used in snowy and icy roads.

Customers will receive further details from Nissan by the middle of May and can expect to receive a free inspection and repair through the dealer.
