Nick Diaz is finally set to make his long awaited return to the UFC. The last time UFC fans saw Diaz in the octagon he announced his “retirement” after being dismantled by then Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre.
Diaz has signed a 3 fight contract extension with the UFC and there are already plans being put into place for Diaz to meet Middleweight great Anderson Silva in his return bout. The date being eyed for the event is Super Bowl weekend.
Anderson Silva would be making a return of his own in this bout. Many fans would like to forget the circumstances that put Silva on the shelf since December of 2013. In a rematch against Chris Weidman for the Middleweight Championship, Anderson suffered a horrific leg injury which left many fans covering their eyes and looking away from the TV.
Both fighters have expressed an interest in competing against each other. According to MMAfighting.com “Silva’s top choice to fight upon returning to the UFC would be Diaz, ideally on Super Bowl weekend 2015.”
Diaz also stated that he and Anderson share a similar fighting style so it would be a bout that he would be interested in.
Many questions loom over this prospective bout. Is Nick Diaz’s heart truly in fighting or is he there simply for a payday? Will we see Anderson Silva return to form or has the injury degraded his skills?
Both men are seeking redemption and UFC fans will be sure to tune in to this blockbuster collision.
