Sony has recently announced a new Vaio Z laptop which will compete with the MacBook Air.
The Vaio Z is both thinner and lighter than the MacBook Air. But that is not the only feature for which the Vaio Z is special. It has high profile specs which will put heavier powerful laptops to shame.
The Vaio Z has a high resolution display of 13.1 inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The processor, which is powering it, is a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 processor and it is boosted with 8GBs of SDRAM. The most interesting feature of the Vaio Z is the external dock, though it is optional. This is a unique interface from Sony, though it uses the Light Peak technology from Intel. The function of the dock is to boost the graphics performance of the laptop, which is loaded with a built in Intel chipset. This dock uses the AMD Radeon HD 6650M graphics with 1GB RAM, which is great for anything graphics heavy. The dock features VGA, HDMI, USB 2.0 and 3.0 and also a Blu-ray optical drive.
Even with the great specs, the laptop manages to run 7 hours on a single charge. And that’s not the end of it. You can extend it to 14 hours with an optional battery which can be charged without the laptop. It can also be added to the laptop without removing the main battery.
The laptop is now available for pre-order in the UK costing $1835, though it will not be available before July.
