New Samsung Galaxy S III Smartphone May Be Revealed May 3

Samsung seems to be taking a clue from the largest publicly traded company in the world, Apple.

Like Apple, they’re playing their cards close to their chest. Leaving those of us on the Internet to guess and speculate and help them build interest in their new product.

And we’ll take them up on it and do just that. Here’s what’s going on…

Samsung just sent out invitations to a May 3rd event in London. The invites say “come and meet the next Galaxy.” And that’s it. No other details.

Speculation is running high that the company will use the even to reveal the details and perhaps the launch date of their (third-generation) Galaxy S III smartphone.

Rumors suggest the new smartphone will have a 4.8 inch, full HD 1080P resolution screen, a quad core processor with 2 GB of RAM, and a 12 megapixel camera. It’s expected there will be 3G and 4G LTE versions. It will likely run on Android 4.0.

With those specs, it sounds like the Galaxy S III will be quite a workhorse. It may will be the strongest competitor the Apple iPhone has seen to date. By comparison, the latest iPhone, the 4S, has a dual core processor, 512 MB RAM, and an eight megapixel camera.

But the Galaxy S III’s real competition will be Apple’s next smartphone, the iPhone 5 (or whatever they decided to call it). There’s lots of unknowns about Apple’s next gen smartphone of course, but the rumors (yeh, again with the rumors) suggest a late summer/early fall launch. That gives Samsung some really strong head start if they launch the Galaxy S III soon after the May 4 introduction.
