National Enquirer Puts Picture Of Houston, In Coffin, On Front Cover

The National Enquirer is being slammed by critics after putting a picture of Whitney Houston, at her own viewing, on its front cover.

The Enquirer calls the picture ‘beautiful.’

The photo, which can be seen here, shows Houston lying in her casket. The headline above the photo shouts ‘Whitney: The Last Photo!” Additional headlines provide details such as her being buried with $500,000 worth of jewelry, in a purple dress, and wearing gold slippers.

The Enquirer does not say who took the photo. According to E! Online, the funeral home is claiming that it was not them. A spokeswoman for the Whigham Funeral Home said “”We don’t like it because it implicates us. Whitney was a personal friend to me and my family. We would not do that.”

However, some still suspect that someone who works for or with the funeral home may be involved. Commenters on fan forums point out that a photo taken from farther back shows the casket with no one around. Apparently before family and friends arrived at the viewing. That photo also appears on the front cover of the Enquirer.

Houston’s actual funeral on Saturday had a closed casket. The viewing, only open to close family and friends, was Friday evening.
