Style lovers who want a peek at upcoming trends for Spring can follow Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, taking place September 5 – 12.
Thousands of fashion industry members, guests, journalists, and photographers will descend upon New York City’s Lincoln Park to document and watch designers unveil their collections for Spring and Summer 2014.
The good news for shoppers is that industry clout or celebrity status is no longer required to watch the shows as they unfold. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will be streaming live from its official site.
Technology and social media will be playing a big role in Fashion Week again this year.
Last year it was Diana von Furstenberg and her models who were getting attention for donning Google Glass on the runway.
According to the Huffington Post, this year Marie Claire Creative Director and Project Runway judge Nina Garcia will be sporting Google Glass and posting live images and videos to the magazine’s social media feeds.
Some of the higher-profile designers like DKNY, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, and Oscar de la Renta, will be streaming from their own websites or Facebook pages.
Rebecca Minkoff’s show will be accompanied by a live performance from CoverGirl model and singer Janelle Monae. (Monae’s new album, “The Electric Lady”, is debuting September 10.)
The performance takes place Friday September 6 at 3pm EST and will be streaming live. Minkoff and Monae will be sharing backstage updates via Instagram with a live photo feed.
Over thirty other designers will be participating in Made Fashion Week in downtown Manhattan, 15 of which will be streaming their shows live.
Social media will be abuzz with countless pictures and videos from behind the scenes. Google Plus and Pinterest have special sections devoted to the event while everyone from fashion editors to models will be sharing the frenzy on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr.
