A sequel to one of 2013’s oddest movies, Spring Breakers, is on its way, and James Franco isn’t happy about it. Franco was the star of Spring Breakers, and he’s upset at the announcement from Wild Bunch earlier this month that a sequel called Spring Breakers: The Second Coming is in the works.
The sequel will be done with director Jonas Akerlund and writer Irvine Welsh, not Harmony Korine, who wrote and directed the original Spring Breakers.
Franco made a statement about the sequel on his Instagram, saying: “This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony’s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel.”
Franco continued: “I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film.”
Franco concluded his rant by saying: “I’m speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity.”
Obviously, Franco will not be in the Spring Breakers sequel, and right now there is no word on whether the rest of the Spring Breakers cast, including Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson, will be back.
