Iranian Woman Scheduled To Death Now Threatening Journalists

The besieged Iranian woman, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who had been sentenced to death by stoning for aiding her lover in the murder of her husband has stepped up and is threatening to sue the two reporters who interviewed her son, Saijad Ghaerzadeh. This might be seen by other newspapers as a “hands-off” threat.

Although newspapers have been instrumental in saving her life, she believes the interview to be illegal. While in prison she has tried to instigate a law suit against the tabloid where the reporters worked. Also offended, the Iranian Government had the two German journalists arrested. In an odd twist of fate, they now await their fate along with Ms Ashtiani. A 15 page appeal has been put in the Bild am Soontag requesting their release.

The international outpouring of rage against the stoning sentence has made the Iranian Government back down somewhat. She is now sentenced to life, but the adultery charge is still pending.  Facebook has over half a million signatures begging for her release. International governments are bearing down on Iran to spare her life. even though the Iranian Government has had her on television admitting her guilt and stating she had not been tortured to confess.

According to Ms Azadeh Moaveni, a reporter from Time, indicated that Malek Ajdar Sharifi, the head of the High Council for Human Rights  in Ms Ashtiani’s province, said the ” case was under review”.

Iranians are outraged that their government has not been able to handle this issue without such an international outcry and are another of the factions with which the Iranian Government is burdened.
