The upcoming third installment of the Insidious film series will have a new director, and it will be none other than the writer and co-star of the first two movies: Leigh Whannell.
James Wan director both Insidious, which came out in 2010, and Insidious: Chapter 2, which came out last year. However, Wan is currently busy directing Fast & Furious 7, which has prompted Whannell to take the reigns as director, in addition to also writing the script for Insidious: Chapter 3.
Wan will be a producer on Chapter 3, so the collaboration between him and Whannell will continue after the first two Insidious movies combined to make over $250 million, despite a combined budget of less than $10 million.
Wan, Whannell, and Blumhouse Productions are all keeping quiet on the plot of Insidious: Chapter 3, but it’s likely to revolve around a new family, so Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne are unlikely to return as Josh and Renai Lambert.
However, the characters Specs, played by Whannell, and Tucker, played by Angus Sampson, are set to return for Chapter 3, which is set to hit theaters April 15, 2015.
