GM Recalls Buicks And Cadillacs For Defroster Malfunctions

General Motors (GM)  announced that it is recalling a number of 2011 Buick LaCrosse sedans and Cadillac SRX crossovers to fix a possible software glitch that could cause the defrosters to stop working. The total number of vehicles is slightly over 10,000, with the Cadillac CRX model being the most widely affected.

The problem lies in the climate control electronics module and can affect the climate control system completely.  The loss of a vehicle’s defrost and defog ability is a violation of the federal safety rules pertaining to driver visibility.

GM became aware of the problem while performing a revision to the software for a new production run, according to the announcement. GM said they are not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the glitch at this time.

Like all other GM safety related software recalls, dealers will fix the the problem by reprogramming the software free of charge.

Owners can call Buick at 866-608-8080 or Cadillac at 866-982-2339.

Last December GM recalled approximately 96,000 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured between 2005 and 2007 to repair defective sensors that led to possible malfunction of passenger-seat air-bags from properly working in a crash.
