Travel website Expedia has opted to drop American Airlines tickets from its selection in a final blow amid a battle that has lingered between the airline and travel sites for months.
The airline began the pricing dispute’s final days when it removed it’s flights from travel giant Orbitz citing that it wouldn’t cost them as much if customers bought the tickets on the American Airlines website.
American Airlines has stated that the fees to go through the travel sites is too costly and that by customers visiting the airline’s website they can offer more to them while also saving money.
Expedia initially made it more difficult to find the airline’s flights on their site before they opted to remove them altogether.
Experts warn American that they may lose out by not utilizing the independent travel sites. One-third of travelers use these sites and the experts say that the airline will lose sales without them.
