Epcot Doesn’t Launch “Habit Heroes” Today

Walt Disney’s Epcot theme park in Orlando, Florida, was scheduled to open “Habit Heroes” today, a new attraction inside the park designed to encourage good health habits amongst today’s youngsters.

No one had a problem with wanting kids to develop good habits.

But the unexpected way in which kids were encouraged to form good health habits rubbed some the wrong way. According to reports, the attraction is atypical of the positive, upbeat, accepting atmosphere that Epcot usually projects. “Habit Heroes” was said to reinforce negative stereotypes of overweight people, who are named in the attraction “Lead Bottom,” “Snacker,” and “Stinkbomb,” for their bad habits of no-exercise, over-eating of fatty foods, and bad hygiene, respectfully.

“We’re appalled to learn that Disney, a traditional hallmark of childhood happiness and joy, has fallen under the shadow of negativity and discrimination. All children, regardless of body size, should be free to enjoy the ‘happiest place on Earth’!” said the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance in a statement released through their website.

Disney responded by delaying today’s public launch of the attraction, which opened to a soft launch with a limited number of guests last month. The company says the attraction will be ‘retooled’ before being officially launched. A website dedicated to the new attraction has also been put into maintenance mode.
