While Hurricane Sandy rages on the East Coast, on the West Coast we’re still Dancing with the Stars.
Last week, due to the Presidential debates, the show was split over two nights so no one went home.
This week, the couples had to channel their inner cowboy for dance numbers based on hit country tunes. To add to the pressure, each celeb had to dance a solo and they all came together for another rousing free style set to Big & Rich’s infamous “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy.”
How did they do? Let’s find out.
Gilles and Peta
Dance: Cha Cha
Song: “I Feel Like a Woman”
Peta couldn’t help but feel like a woman when she danced this hot Cha Cha with Gilles. Bruno and Carrie Ann both said the dance was very sexy (Carrie Ann almost fell off her chair again!). Len gave Gilles credit for giving it 100%, saying he liked the way he was right on the edge while still remaining in control. The only downside, Gilles’ tendency to make “T-Rex” hands. Still, they were rewarded with good scores all around, but they fell short of perfect.
Sabrina and Louis
Sabrina wowed the judges with her vulnerability and magical solo. Bruno said her figures were stunning. Carrie Ann said she could tell that Sabrina was dancing from her heart and Len thought the beautiful choreography was perfectly balanced. They grabbed a perfect score to take the lead.
Kelly and Val
Song: “Good Girl”
Kelly and Val turned up the heat for a steamy Tango that left Carrie Ann shouting, “nice comeback!” Bruno said Kelly was engulfed in the flames of passion, but Len was middle of the road with his remarks about her doing what she had to do. A 27 used to be a good score, but it’s way too low for this stage of the game.
Melissa and Tony
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Song: “Why You Wanna”
Melissa and Tony always look so elegant when they perform any kind of Waltz and tonight it was good enough to get a standing ovation from Len. Bruno called Melissa’s moves exquisite, but Carrie Ann said she needed to stop internalizing the dance. Carrie Ann was also the only judge to give them less than a perfect score. Still, with two 10’s and 9.5 they move right up to second place.
Shawn and Derek
Dance: Cha Cha
Song: “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”
Shawn injured her knee during rehearsals, but that didn’t stop her from turning in a fun and flirty Cha Cha. Carrie Ann and Bruno both praised the way they mixed Cha Cha moves with traditional country line dance steps. Len said they had too many gimmicks and Carrie Ann called Shawn’s solo stiff. They end up in the middle of the pack.
Kirstie and Max
After more bickering in rehearsal, Kirstie and Max delivered a sultry Rumba that pleased most of the judges. Carrie Ann dubbed Kirstie “the Queen of Sexy”. Bruno said she was gorgeous and he thought her arms were especially expressive. Len wasn’t as impressed. He thought her hip action was lacking and he dinged her with a very low 8.5.
Apolo and Karina
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Song: “Sarah Beth”
Apolo usually excels at the more athletic dances, but tonight he pulled off a Viennese Waltz that Len said had great musicality. Bruno declared it graceful and weightless and Carrie Ann went with poetry in motion. All three judges were so mesmerized by the dance, they gave the couple 10’s across the board.
Emmitt and Cheryl
Song: “Islands in the Stream”
This popular duet was made famous by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, but it’s not the perfect rhythm for a Foxtrot. Maybe that’s why Carrie Ann thought they weren’t in sync for most of the dance. Bruno said it was cute, “country fair fun,” but that’s not exactly a compliment. Same goes for Len’s remark that it was entertaining. They get hit hard with a very low 26.5. Big surprise for this popular couple.
To end the night, all of the couples took the floor together for a free style dance to “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” and “I Play Chicken with the Train.” It’s like ballroom night at Gilley’s, with Kirsite and Max earning 2 extra points for their entertaining efforts.
And that’s it. Tomorrow, Taylor Swift will be on hand to sing her new song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Jason Mraz will also perform “I Won’t Give Up” and the Macy’s Stars of Dance number is said to be a modern day twist on Marie Antoinette.
Dancing with the Stars returns tomorrow on ABC at 9:00.
