Duncan Donuts Holds Apple Pie Day Competition

Duncan Donuts, the famous early morning donut nook and police hangout, is holding a Twitter based Apple Pie Day competition.

Yes, unbeknownst to many (it doesn’t even have an entry in Wikipedia), today is National Apple Pie Day. The origin of Apple Pie Day is somewhat conflicted. According to HolidayInsights.com, the holiday was started by the American Pie Council in 1986 in honor of Crisco’s 75th anniversary. However, there is a counter-claim by Charlie Papazian of the examiner.com, who says he invented the day back in 1975. It’s not an ‘official’ US holiday.

Nevertheless, Duncan Donuts is taking advantage of the day for a quick promotion via Twitter. Duncan Donuts is looking for guesses as to what kind of apples the company uses in it’s “warm apple pie” handheld pastry. According to a press release from Duncan Donuts, “Anyone who offers a correct guess, using hashtag #ApplePieDDay, is eligible to win.”

The prize is a gift card worth $50 of Duncan Donuts products.

We’re happy to help our guests celebrate National Apple Pie Day and honor one of our country’s classic treats. With a significant portion of consumers snacking more frequently in recent years, we’ve added Warm Apple Pie to our menu to help busy, on-the-go people satisfy their cravings with this all-American favorite snack, served fast and fresh any time of day,” said Dunkin’ Brands’ executive chef Stan Frankenthaler.
