Denver Bronco Wide Receiver Found Dead

Kenny McKinley, wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, has been found dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was discovered in a Colorado home on Monday afternoon. He was 23 years old.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation will be ongoing, even though it appears the wound was self-inflicted.

McKinley attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Georgia, before going on to play for the University of South Carolina. He was then selected during the fifth round in the 2009 NFL draft by the Broncos.

After playing eight games, McKinley suffered a knee injury that placed him on the injured reserve list, where he has spent the remainder of his time with the team.

The team president and CEO Pat Bowlen issued a statement expressing the team’s sadness and offering condolences to the family.

McKinley is the third Bronco to have died since 2007. Darrent Williams was shot in Denver in 2007.  Damien Nash collapsed at a charity basketball game that same year.

The coach, McDaniels, called the wide receivers death “tragic.”
