CW Considering Vampire Diaries Spin-off

According to the TV news site Deadline, the CW is considering launching a spin-off of it’s popular vampire soap, The Vampire Diaries.

The new show would focus on original vampire (and occasional villain), Klaus and be focused on his exploits as part of the first family of vampires.

Deadline is reporting that the April 25th episode of the Vampire Diaries will focus on Klaus (played by Joseph Morgan) in New Orleans, and be penned by executive producer Julie Plec.

The episode will serve as the backdoor pilot episode for the the show, currently titled “Originals”.

In recent seasons of The Vampire Diaries Klaus has become a much beloved character, even though he was originally introduced to be a villain. It has been reported that fans loved him so much, and gave such feedback that the shows creators decided that instead of killing off the character, the would find a way to keep him around. He remains a character that you love to hate.

According to site TVline, co-creator Plec stated that he “will continue to be a very complicated character.  Much like Damon in the first couple seasons, when he feels backed up against the wall, he lashes out in very, very destructive ways.  It makes it impossible to forgive. And yet, the redemption of Klaus as a character-long arc is something we always talk about.”

Plec is also lined up to be the executive producer of the new spin-off, which will be backed by Alloy, Warner Bros TV and CBS TV Studios.
