The long-discredited hCG diet plan is back with its not so healthy calorie restrictions.
HGC refers to the naturally occurring hormone know was “human chorionic gonadotropin.” The hCG hormones is secreted in large amounts by the placenta during normal pregnancies, and is essential in fetal development. The same hormone is used for performance enhancement by athletics.
Even though it has yet to be proved, hCG is promoted with the expectation to stimulate fat breakdown, to conserve carbohydrates and favor fat combustion to help make calorie restrictions more tolerable.
The current recommendation by hCG promoters is to restrict caloric intake to between 500 and 700 calories per day, while hCG pills or injections are being administrated.
The average caloric intake for most adult individuals range between 1800 and 2500 calories per day. Cutting calories to fewer than 50 percent of the advised amount is considered starvation. 500-700 calories is quite a large difference. According to health experts, consuming less than 1,000 calories a day is not healthy and tends to be more harmful than helpful. Not only that, normally once dieters begin eating normally after some time eating less than what their bodies need, they usually gain the weight back and a few pounds more.
