For the next two weeks, shoppers can purchase five titles from the critically acclaimed studio, Double Fine.
This offer is run through the Humble Bundle site, so shoppers are free to pay as much or as little as they choose. A portion of each sale will be donated to charity.
The titles being offered are:
- Costume Quest,
- Stacking (and The Lost Hobo King DLC),
- Brütal Legend (for all orders over $8),
- And a preorder for Broken Age (for all orders over $35).
For shoppers who are unfamiliar with the studio, Double Fine is known for its unique artistic style and innovative game play. Double Fine’s titles are often praised for their surreal setting and humorously delivered story.
Many shoppers may find Brütal Legend to be the bundle’s highlight.
Starring Jack Black, Legend follows the journey of a roadie who must do battle in a land inspired by heavy metal album-art and culture. Part adventure and part real time strategy, Legend is a crossover between genres.
Brütal Legend has been praised for its game play, artistic direction, and voice work.
The game contains 108 heavy metal tracks and the voice work of celebrities such as Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead), Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath), Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Tim Curry, and of course Jack Black.
Brütal Legend has been previously been released on the XBOX 360 and the PlayStation 3.
Costume Quest is an adventure RPG in which a young trick-or-treater’s twin sibling is kidnapped by a monster on Halloween. The player must complete quests to collect candy and find clues as to the location of the missing sibling.
Throughout the journey, the player will have to battle monsters by transforming into a powerful character based upon their upgradeable Halloween costume.
Psychonauts is a critically praised 3D platformer which puts the player in the shoes of Raz, a young psychic ‘soldier’ who is attending a troubled psychic summer camp. Raz must use his psychic abilities to probe the minds of those around him to find the answers he needs to save his friends.
Stacking puts the player in the painted shoes of Charlie Blackmoor, a young child laborer in a 19th Century world inhabited by stackable Babushka dolls. The player must guide Charlie as he utilizes the abilities of larger characters to solve puzzles and save his friends.
The game is handled light-heartedly, despite its grim sounding premise. Stacking has been critically praised for its visual design and innovative gameplay.
The final game included in the bundle has yet to be officially released. Broken Age is the point-and-click tale of a “young boy and girl leading parallel lives. The girl has been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to a terrible monster — but she decides to fight back. Meanwhile, a boy on a spaceship is living a solitary life under the care of a motherly computer, but he wants to break free to lead adventures and do good in the world.”
Broken Age has yet to be released, but the purchase price will help complete the game’s development. Shoppers who purchase Broken Age will receive a beta copy of the game and eventual access to the game’s final version.
All for a good cause
As with any Humble Bundle, the proceeds are split between the Humble Bundle website, the game’s developer, and two charitable organizations: The Electronic Frontiers Foundation and the Child’s Play Charity.
All purchases are delivered as a DRM free digital download for PC, Mac or Linux. The minimum requirements for each game can be found on the Humble Bundle website. Any donation of over $1 will also net the buyer Steam keys for each purchased game.
This offer will expire within the next two weeks.
