Broadcaster Pat O’Brien Back On Olympic Stage

Pat O'Brien

Along with swimming greats Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte and volleyball standouts Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor, another star of a different sort is also appearing at the London Games:

Broadcasting legend Pat O’Brien, who is serving as host of Bravo’s tennis coverage at the Olympics which continues through August 13.

Appreciate his almost too smooth style or not, O’Brien has built a remarkable resume’, including a 16-year run at CBS in which he covered events like the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals and NCAA Tournament.

After building his sports broadcasting career, O’Brien successfully crossed over into entertainment as host of Access Hollywood, then The Insider, in the late 90’s through the mid-2000’s.

O’Brien’s drive for success hit some notable roadblocks along the way, including bouts with alcoholism and stints in rehabilitation facilities throughout the past decade.

He was dismissed from The Insider after reportedly sending out unflattering e-mails to co-workers about his co-host Lara Spencer, who now works at Good Morning America and Good Afternoon America.

O’Brien’s reputation also took a serious hit with the release of his personal e-mails to an anonymous woman in which he discussed graphic sex and drug use.

O’Brien, to his credit, has not faded into career oblivion, however. Along with current gig on the NBC-owned Bravo channel, he has also co-hosted  a FOX Sports radio show for the last two years.

Like an Olympian striving for gold, there is no stopping Pat O’Brien, it seems.
