Boehner Says Business As Usual For House

Saturday’s shooting rampage by a deranged gunman that took the lives of 6 people will not deter Washington “business as usual,” according to Republican House Speaker John Boehner.  The shootings, which presumably were an attempt to assonate Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, left her critically wounded and still in the hospital.

On Sunday morning the Republican speaker said that the flags on Capitol Hill would be flown at half staff to honor the congresswoman’s fight for recovery and to remember her aide Gabe Zimmerman who was killed in the mêlée in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday.

Quickly after the shooting, Washington announced that House business would be postponed for at least one week in order to address any fallout from the shooting rampage.  Boehner indicated that this time would be used to reflect and regroup and added that this “inhuman act” would not hinder the House of Representatives from performing their normal duties.

At this time, it is unclear what will happen with Representative Gabrielle Giffords’ seat while she is in recovery.  Rehabilitation and full recovery from this type of injury could take some time, but contingency plans are certainly in place during her time away.  This coming week will offer much in the form of heated debate between the parties and, maybe, some talk or rationality on common issues and less heated rhetoric.
