Bodies of Two Nevada Miners Identified

Bodies found after Nevada mine accidentLate Friday crews discovered the bodies of two miners who had died this week in an accident in Nevada. On Saturday, the bodies were identified as Daniel Patrick Noel, 47, and Ethan Joel Schorr, 38, of Spring Creek, Nevada.  Both men leave behind wives and children.

On Thursday, at about 1:15am, the two miners were in an elevator inspecting a large pipe in a vertical shaft. The pipe fell into the shaft and damaged the elevator. All operations at the Meikle mine were suspended after the accident.

The Meikle mine is owned by Barrick Gold Corporation, and is one of two underground mines at their Barrick Goldstrike facility in Nevada.

The bodies were discovered 1,300 feet underground. The company said that Barrick and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) spent 32 hours working to reach the area where they discovered the bodies.

The MSHA has reported 53 deaths this year, including 42 coal related, and 11 metal related.

Greg Lang, the president of Barrick’s North America Region, stated that the company is focused on assisting the miner’s families now. “The hearts and prayers of every Barrick employee are with them at this time” he said.
