Awareness Week Promotes Treatments For Eating Disorder

February 20 to 26 marks the 24th annual National Eating Disorder Awareness week, which aims to fight for research, support and treatments for eating disorders.

The event, with a theme this year of ‘It’s Time to Talk About It’, is  a campaign by the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) to help bring awareness to the serious nature of the illnesses. The group is hoping that the week will help bring education to the general public about what signs and symptoms indicate an eating disorder. They also hope that many will find the support they need to seek treatments for their eating disorders.

Seeking treatment for eating disorders is only one goal of the awareness week. NEDA also uses this time to publicly challenge the unrealistic body images created by society. Lynn Grefe, president and CEO of NEDA, says “speaking out is more critical now than ever before. It is time to talk about it.”
