Attack On Pearl Harbor Day Remembered-Dec 7th 1941

69 years ago the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.  Commemorating the day will be nearly 100 of the remaining survivors who will be remembering their fallen comrades in Hawaii.

On the morning of December 7th, 2010 the first bomb was dropped by the attacking planes arriving off the coast of Oahu which brought the United States into World War II.  The attacks came in 2 waves, the first wave surprising the unaware service men and women, many who were just waking up.  By the time the 2nd attack was over, the casualties had reached 2, 896.

Traveling from all over the country, many members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association came to remember the lives that were lost during the attack on that dreaded morning.  Although their numbers are shrinking, the remaining members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association have voted against disbanding, even though their age has made it difficult to maintain.

The memorial will be held across the harbor from the USS Arizona, which was sunk during the attack and entombs the remains of fallen marines and sailors.  The veterans will be greeted by a new $56 million Pearl Harbor Visitors Center, which carries visitors by boat to the site which sits atop the sunken battleship.
