AT&T To Launch Samsung Focus 2 Windows Phone May 20

Samsung-Focus-2AT&T announced through their blog yesterday that the Samsung Focus 2 will be available on the AT&T network starting May 20, 2012.

The new phone will feature a 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen and has a 1.4 GHz single-core processor. There’s 8 GB of on-board storage (non-expandable). The phone has two cameras, a front facing 5 megapixel rear one, and a VGA front facing one. It’s 0.43 inches thick and weighs in at 4.3 ounces. The Focus 2 is enabled for AT&T’s 4G LTE network and runs Windows 7.5. It just comes in just one color, glossy white, and will be priced at $49.99 with a new two year AT&T contract.

With the phone running Windows 7.5, an obvious question comes to mind. Will the Samsung Focus 2 be upgradable to Windows 8, which is expected to come out this fall?

There doesn’t appear to be a definite answer from AT&T on this, but others are chiming in. MobileTechWorld says a Windows 8 update “may or probably may not be offered as an update to the current Windows Phone 7 handsets on the market.” Other comments from various reviewers are similar – maybe, but probably not.

The Focus 2 will be the third Windows phone available on AT&T. The other two are the Samsung Focus Flash and the Samsung Focus S. When it comes to Windows phones right now, there are not a lot of choices. With just three phones in their lineup, AT&T’s Jonathan Church writes that “AT&T continues to offer customers the most robust Windows Phone portfolio of any carrier.”

Will this be the last Windows phone that gets launched before Windows 8 comes out? You make the call in the comments section below.
