Ashton Kutcher Signs For One Season On Two And A Half Men

Ashton Kutcher’s role in the new season of Two and a Half Men will only consist of one season, according to a report published yesterday in the Wall Street Journal. Although this sounds ominous, viewers need to remember that the show only has one more year of production contracted with Warner Brothers; the studio is not going to award any of the cast members contracts extending beyond that year, as it could negatively influence the show’s position during negotiations for new terms with the studio once the current contract expires.

Viewers watched the dramatic and comical events over the past six months concerning Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men’s former star, avidly, and when Kutcher was chosen as Sheen’s replacement, the reactions of fans and industry insiders was mixed. Many Sheen loyalists believe that Kutcher does not have the comedy proof to fill Sheen’s shoes—and there is some validity to this belief, since Sheen commanded more than a million dollars per episode. However, Sheen’s erratic and often odd behavior has caused many of his fans to doubt Sheen’s ability to continue heading the award-winning show, especially after alienating the show’s executive brass and Warner Brothers. Sheen filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Warner Brothers, which was recently denied.

Ashton Kutcher started out in male modeling, but is best known for his campy, goofy humor associated with his roles in That 70’s Show , Dude, Where’s My Car? and his MTV show, Punk’d—as well as being married to Demi Moore. He has done more serious work, such as in The Butterfly Effect and recent independent works such as Spread.

Although Sheen reacted negatively to the original announcement of his replacement by Kutcher, he quickly reversed his stance, Tweeting: “#Winning Congrats to the cast and crew…CBS & WB..! My best to @aplusk!! [Kutcher’s Twitter handle] The show must go on… You got the right guy! c”

The new rollout of Two and a Half Men will premiere in September, and his exact role and storyline in the show have not been announced.
