Apple Attempting To Ban US Sales Of Galaxy Nexus

Here in the US we’ve been watching Apple’s attempts to ban sales of Samsung and HTC phones, using various patent laws, from afar. While Apple has done the same here, they’ve not been very successful. Now there’s a whiff of change in the air.

On Thursday, Apple filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to halt sales of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Apple is claiming that the Galaxy Nexus, which runs on Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), infringes upon four Apple patents.

Samsung-Galaxy-NexusAccording to Foss Patents, the patents are related to “data tapping,” “Siri and unified search,” a “slide-to-unlock patent,” and a “word completion patent.” Florian Mueller of Foss Patents wrote in the analysis that “I believe the court will rule on this motion within a matter of months.”

Apple has been filing lawsuits against Samsung all around the world. Injunctions to hold sales have been granted in several cases. Just recently a German judge ruled that the Galaxy Nexus could continue to be sold in Germany.

In the US, Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus is currently only available on the Verizon network.
