Angry Birds In Space, Windows Phone Confusion

When “Angry Birds In Space” launched last week, many of you noticed that while it was made available for just about every operating system, it wasn’t available for Windows Phones.

Bloomberg quoted Peter Vesterbacka, an executive from Rovio, the maker of the popular Angry Birds apps, who said there just wasn’t to be one for Windows Phones. He cited the costs of making the game as the reason, noting that there are far more iOS and Android devices that there are Windows mobile devices.

That set off a fury statements from a variety of sources about the future of Windows Phones. If Angry Birds can’t be loaded onto Windows Phones, will people still buy them?

The Washington Post said this would be a major blow to Nokia, who has bet their future on the Windows Phone operating system.

But hold your horses – Rovio’s CEO has jumped in to say that they do plan to make an Angry Birds In Space for Windows Phones. He is quoted on Reuters as saying “We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7,” he said quite definitively, as well as denying reports that Rovio will no longer support Windows Phones.

He did not say when that version will be available, nor did he state a reason for the confusion.
