Amazon Going Brick & Mortar?

Amazon may be preparing to open its own brick-and-mortar store, according to reports from Bloomberg News and other sources.

Now this won’t be some kind of mammoth size Amazon bookstore. Think more along lines of a techie Apple-like store selling high-end Amazon devices. There will be Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fires, and other exclusive Amazon tech products. Maybe even the rumored Amazon smartphone when…or if… it comes out. It’s also likely that they will have plenty of Kindle and Amazon related paraphernalia and accessories… From Kindle cases and screen savers to, perhaps, Amazon exclusive books and e-books.

It’s being reported that the Amazon brick and mortar test-store will be located in Seattle. A factor in future expansion will likely be sales taxes. Amazon has to pay a sales tax in any state in which they have a physical location. Because they are headquartered in Seattle they already pay sales tax in the state of Washington – so the sales tax issue is not a concern with this first store.

According to Good E-Reader, Amazon plans to roll out the Seattle store within the next few months. They say it will be open by the fall at the latest, so that the physical Amazon store can take advantage of the 2012 holiday shopping season.
