9/11 Anniversary Event: “A Concert for Hope” | Preview, TV Time, Details

The 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks is just around the corner. Many events have been scheduled to remember, and honor, those that died that day.

The main event is called “A Concert for Hope,” and will take place on Sunday evening, 9/11/2011. Musicians such as Alan Jackson, Patti LaBelle, and Denyce Graves will be performing.

“A Concert for Hope” is part of three-day event that takes place Sept. 9 -11, called “A Call To Compassion.”

U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will attend “A Concert for Hope,” where an interfaith prayer and concert service will be held. President Obama will close the event with a speech.

Barack and Michelle will then travel to the three sites of the 9/11 plane crashes: New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennyslvania.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed when terrorists hijacked four U.S. commercial airplanes and flew them into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania due to the heroic efforts of the passengers and crew, who retaliated against the terrorists.

The 9/11 ceremony will also mark the opening of a memorial plaza, where the names of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks, as well as those killed in the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, have been etched into bronze panels.

The Pentagon Channel, ABC7/WJLA-TV as well as numerous other affiliates of ABC nationwide will broadcast “A Concert for Hope” live on Sunday, Sept. 11, 8-9 p.m. ET.
