Xbox Announces Cross-Platform Play With Sony & Others

Xbox Announces Cross-Platform Play With Sony & Others

If you ever dreamed of the day when you could play your Xbox One games against PC users or even PlayStation gamers?

Well, that day may finally be here.

Microsoft announced today that it is starting a new initiative that will open Xbox Live up for cross-platform, multiplayer action across all services.

This means any Xbox One or Windows 10 gamers using Xbox Live will be able to play with users “on different online multiplayer networks — including other console and PC networks.”

ID@Xbox Director Chris Charla went on Xbox Wire to explain that Microsoft is offering up a bunch of new tools for developers, including ones that could open the door for multiplayer with PS4 players.

He also cautioned that: “ it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players.”

In other words, Sony will have to eventually play nice to make this possibility a reality, but given the potential here it seems inevitable.

What do you think of this announcement from Microsoft?

Do you think it will take gaming to the next level?
