Germany and Algeria will both be looking to secure a quarter final position as the World Cup knock-out stages continue today.
The two teams face each other at 21:00 BST (16:00 ET), and if you’re wanting to follow the game there are live video and radio steaming options available.
If you’d rather listen than watch, radio coverage and live online audio is also available.
Algeria reached the last 16 after a hard fought battle to get out of Group H. Vahid Halilhodzic’s squad managed a victory against South Korea after being beaten by Belgium, and then hung on for a 1-1 draw against Russia.
While it’s fair to say that the Algerian team has surprised and impressed many by making it out of the group, today’s match is nothing short of a David Vs Goliath encounter.
Germany made light work of their group matches, starting by destroying Portugal in a 4-0 rout. Thomas Müller has been on form throughout the tournament, and his deadly accuracy on goal would trouble even the strongest of sides.
Despite the apparent gulf between the two teams, German coach Joachim Low is remaining cautious.
“If anybody thinks or believes – and I think this is a feeling among the general public – that Algeria are easy opponents and that we can already start thinking of the next round, then they’re making a huge mistake.” said Low
“We must remain focused and on our toes because any complacency will be punished.”
Despite Low’s warning, my prediction is that his team will make relatively light work of this encounter. While the Algerians are strong in defense and well motivated, I don’t believe the North African team have the quality required to break through.
My full time prediction is a 2-0 win for Germany.
Do you think that Algeria can pull off a surprise result and knock the Germans out of the competition?
