Why Is Cee Lo Green Officially Leaving The Voice?

CeeLo Green announced on Wednesday’s The Ellen Degeneres Show that he is officially leaving NBC’s The Voice after being a coach for four out of the five seasons.

But, why did he decide to leave the hugely successful show he was apart of since the beginning?

He explains to Degeneres, “I don’t want to wear out my welcome there. I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven’t released an album in four years.”

Despite his departure from The Voice, he revealed, “I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC. I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year. But yeah, I’m going to miss The Voice, too.”

Green also announced on his official website that he will be touring with Lionel Richie from May to August of this year in a concert special called “All The Hits All Night Long.”

NBC did release an official statement confirming Green’s departure, with NBC reality chief Paul Telegdy praising Green.

“CeeLo Green has been an instrumental part of the success of The Voice and we deeply appreciate all his contributions,” he says. “We’re looking forward to working with him on other upcoming projects that will tap into both his musical and entertainment expertise.”

So, with an album on the way, a tour, and possible new tv shows in the works, it is understandable why CeeLo will not be returning to The Voice.

While there is no word yet on who will officially replace him, there is no denying that Green’s elaborate outfits, eloquently spoken critiques and heart-warming coaching style will be greatly missed!
